Freezing rain, snow to continue tonight

Heavy wind, snow possible Saturday

A winter weather advisory remains in effect in Jasper County until midnight Thursday with another system moving through central Iowa on Saturday.

Additional snow and sleet accumulations of less than one inch are expected with ice accumulation of up to one-tenth of an inch across central Iowa.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 511.

Iowa's active weather will persist into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service, with a more potent low-pressure area into Saturday. The current system will bring a wintry mix of precipitation over the northwest two-thirds of the state, while Saturday's storm will be more potent with the main threat a heavy, wind-blown snow west and north.
