Baxter boys complete season sweep of Meskwaki

BAXTER — Four players accounted for all but three of the points in the Baxter boys’ basketball team’s 58-46 win over Meskwaki Settlement School on Tuesday night during Iowa Star Conference play.

Junior Will Clapper tallied another double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds, senior Travis Lindemoen added 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds and senior Braydon Aker grabbed 16 rebounds and scored nine points as the Bolts completed the season sweep of the Warriors.

Sophomore Cole Damman chipped in nine points and three boards for the Bolts, who won their third straight game.

Baxter led 12-9 after one and held a 24-19 lead at halftime. The Warriors got within two after three quarters, but the Bolts (7-4 overall, 6-1 in the Iowa Star Conference) pulled away with a 21-11 advantage in the final frame.

Jarius Bear scored 21 points for Meskwaki, which dropped to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

The Warrior girls completed the season sweep on the Bolts following big second and fourth quarters.

Baxter trailed by just one after the first quarter, but Meskwaki (7-6, 5-3) outscored the Bolts 16-4 in the second and 23-3 in the fourth to win 59-27. Baxter (1-12, 1-6) won the third quarter 12-11.

Senior Sailor Hinegardner led the Bolts with six points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists, and sophomore Holly Jessen also scored six points. Senior Jordynn Wesselink chipped in five points and five boards and junior Kaylin Van Ryswyk tallied four points and eight rebounds.

Both Baxter teams host Collins-Maxwell for a varsity doubleheader beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.
