Newton Police Department

 Dwyane R. Frosch-Machuta, 47, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence, interference with official acts and eluding at 2:12 a.m. Nov. 14 after police were called to 1006 N. Eighth Ave. E. after a resident called 911. Frosch-Machuta told police he was having issues with his wife and she was at Courtyard Apartments and he wanted her to come home and get her stuff. He had been drinking and told police he was intoxicated. Police told him they couldn't help him with his problems. Police believed Frosch-Machuta would drive back to Courtyard Apartments to make contact with his wife, and they saw his vehicle leave his residence. When police initiated emergency lights and sirens, Frosch-Machuta continued to drive to the parking lot of Courtyard Apartments. He was given commands to exit his vehicle, and he refused to get on the ground. He smelled of alcohol and police located an open bottle of whiskey in the vehicle. He refused field sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. His breath test gave a result of .200 blood alcohol content.

• Morgan R. Cope, 26, of North Carolina, city unknown, was charged with fourth-degree theft, eluding, providing false identification of information and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:12 p.m. Nov. 14 after police attempted to stop a vehicle that matched the description of one given in a theft incident at Hy-Vee. The driver continued even after emergency lights and sirens were initiated on East 19th Street South. The vehicle exceeded speeds in a 25 mph zone and eventually crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Robin and Ranch Avenues. Cope gave officers incorrect identification information. She also told officers she stole items from Hy-Vee totaling $240. Police identified the woman as Cope and placed her under arrest. Cope told police she had needles in her purse, and officers also found a box with more syringes in a sock, a spoon and a digital scale. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• James A. Garland, 37, of Newton, was charged with disorderly conduct at 2:02 a.m. Nov. 15 after police were called to a residence on East 18th Street North in reference to a man knocking on the door to a residence. The victim told police Garland had been knocking and yelling at the front door. Police also saw a video with audio with a man saying multiple times “let me in.” Garland was found on the back porch of the residence sleeping, and he smelled of alcohol. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Jacob D. Underwood, 20, of Colfax, was charged with possession of controlled substance — methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia at 8:33 p.m. Nov. 16 after officials pulled Underwood over for a traffic violation at the intersection of West Division and Locust Streets in Colfax. Underwood was in possession of 2.7 grams of marijuana found in the center console and a scale. Underwood told police he used the scale to weigh the marijuana after receiving it. Underwood was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
