Newton Police Department
• Raymond M. Martin, 59, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance — marijuana and public intoxication at 5:44 p.m. Nov. 3 after police responded to 1100 N. Ninth Ave. E. in reference to a man having problems walking and falling down. Police arrived in the area and located a man in the grass. He had a bike on the ground near him, and he also smelled of alcohol. Police observed six out of six clues of intoxication and arrested Martin. During the arrest, a small plastic bag with a green leafy substance was found in the front right jeans pocket of Martin. The substance appeared to be marijuana. Police also located a full bottle of vodka in his jacket. Martin was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
