Good News Newton

• Oct. 31 Trick or Treats: 4 to 6 p.m. Main Street Downtown, 5 to 7 p.m. Skiff or Treat and 6 to 8 p.m. City of Newton Trick or Treating.

• As work on the middle school progresses many Newton teachers are taking advantage of learning opportunities in their backyard, such as reading blueprints and figuring out square footage.

• Vote on Nov. 7 for mayor and city council positions. Did you know the City of Newton has had a mayor-council form of government since 1982.

• Newton’s Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) on Oct. 4 saw 116 Industrial Tech students to six of our area manufacturer’s-TPI, Trinity, Product Development Partners, Patriot Converting, Rock Communications and Thomberts. Plus tours of Maytag DMACC Campus and Plant 2.

• Relocation of Motorcycle Man to a new area on the Newton DMACC campus. The welding instructor and students will be creating a new piece of art for the entrance spot.

• A feasibility study has been completed by RDG on the land around and adjacent to the Iowa Speedway at exit 168. Meetings have been held with the Iowa Speedway and land owners in that area to get their input and share the information gathered by RDG.

• Newton School District preliminary enrollment numbers has seen an increase into the triple digits.

• There are two prospects looking for space at Plant 2. Each prospect is looking at approximately 100,000 square feet each.

• Atlas Hydraulics was purchased by the Gates Corporation, plans are to increase production at the Newton facility.
