Airsoft tournament to take place at former high school

BURLINGTON — A former eastern Iowa high school will serve as the site for a weekend Airsoft tournament. At least 200 visitors are expected at the old Apollo High School on Saturday. The tournament was scheduled after the president of Cornell College’s Airsoft team called the building’s owner and asked to use it after seeing photos of the school circulating on a Facebook page for forgotten Midwestern buildings.

The building is getting remodeled into high-end apartments and condos. Renovations have started, but it’s still in rough shape. Tickets sales from the tournament could help pay for the first round of renovations.

Airsoft guns use pressurized air to fire BBs. They don’t hurt as much as paintballs but can easily be felt and heard.
