Warriors beat Cardinals

NORWALK — Each team went into Tuesday’s Little Hawkeye Conference match without a conference victory.

Newton High’s Cardinals played their final regular-season LHC match against the Norwalk Warriors on Senior Night for the Warriors.

The Warriors netted a three-set win over the visiting Cardinals, 27-25, 25-13, 25-21.

No individual statistics for Newton players were available by presstime.

Newton finished with a 0-7 LHC mark and Norwalk, which has one more conference match, is 1-5.

Newton (3-21) returns to Norwalk on Oct. 12 for the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament.

Newton’s freshmen lost to Norwalk 21-15, 16-21,15-6. They went 39-of-44 from the service line and had 10 ace serves. The Cardinals had nine kills, five set assists and 15 digs as a team.

Tess Brunsmann served up three aces as she went 12-of-13 serving and Riley Davidson was 11-of-12 with three ace serves. Kayli Greer was 7-of-8 serving with two ace serves. Jamie Rogers and Jerrica McGuire each had an ace serve.

Leading the net attack for the freshmen were Brunsmann with three kills and Lainey Hull had two kills. Rogers, Greer, McGuire and Haley Fuller had one kill apiece. Davidson had two set assists.

Nykole Hernandez had six digs and Fuller had three digs. Brunsmann and Hull each had two digs.

The Newton freshmen finished 7-13-1 overall and 2-5 in LHC play.
