C-M harriers face tough field at North Polk

ALLEMAN — The Colfax-Mingo cross country teams competed against some of the best teams and runners in the state on Monday during the annual North Polk Cross Country Invitational.

The Tigerhawk girls, running without top runner Abbey McConeghey, placed fifth in the seven-team field, and the boys were ninth in the 10-team field.

The top finisher on the day came from junior Ilia Hostetter, who was 18th in the girls’ race with a time of 24 minutes, 5 seconds. Freshman Crystal Lincoln placed 33rd in 25:06.

Class 3A No. 4 North Polk cruised to the team title with 18 points. Madrid was second (60) followed by Lynnville-Sully (75), and Collins-Maxwell (94).Colfax-Mingo was fifth with 130 points.

Class 3A No. 10 Amelia Lesher won the girls’ race in 20:03.

In the boys’ race, Colfax-Mingo was led by junior Cauy Fitch in 32nd with a time of 19:49 and sophomore Cyden Fitch was 46th in 20:34.

Three ranked teams were at the top of the team standings. Class 1A No. 10 Woodward Academy won it with 56 points, 2A No. 13 Des Moines Christian was next with 64 and 1A No. 8 Madrid finished third with 67. Colfax-Mingo totaled 253 points in ninth.

Madrid junior Sean McDermott, who is ranked fifth in 1A, won the boys’ race in 16:53.
