CHARITON — The Mustangs won their 12th straight district game and out-gained Chariton 420-68 in leading 35-0 at halftime.
The PCM starting offense played only the first two quarters, and the reserves finished off a 42-14 road win over Chariton on Friday.
Class 2A No. 8 PCM improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in District 6 play. The Mustangs had a 15-2 advantage in first downs in the first half.
Junior Reed Worth threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns, junior Wes Cummings gained 148 yards and scored a TD on seven carries and senior Noah Anderson scored three different ways in the win.
The Mustangs led 14-0 after one quarter. They started the game with two punts but got going when Worth hooked up with junior Isaac Telfer for an 11-yard TD catch. Cummings scored his TD on a 54-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds to play in the quarter.
Worth hit junior Brayton Van Dyke for a 24-yard TD catch to put the Mustangs up 21-0.
That’s when Anderson scored three straight TDs. He begin that stretch with a 26-yard TD run and then ended the half with a 58-yard touchdown reception.
The Mustangs’ lone points in the second half came on Anderson’s 61-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Chariton (2-4 overall, 1-3 in the district) scored two touchdowns on PCM’s backup defense. The Chargers scored late in the third quarter to break the shutout and then added another score in the fourth quarter.
Cummings added 60 receiving yards on two catches to go with his 148 rushing yards. Anderson had 29 rushing yards, 58 receiving yards and a 61-yard punt return for a TD. Telfer, Van Dyke and juniors Preston Van Wyk and Jarron Trausch all had two receptions.
Defensively, junior Chance Palm had a team-high six tackles. Senior Jacob Woody and juniors Brycen Rogers and Nick Meinders all had fumble recoveries. Trausch, Rogers and senior Jacob Ponder all had 3 1/2 tackles.
The Mustangs try to get their 13th straight district win against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Monroe. It’s the school’s homecoming, too.
