Photos: Newton Police Department conducts Safety City

The Newton Police Department offers Safety City for kindergarten students annually.

Safety City allows students to experience various traffic and safety situations in a controlled and protected manner. Students learning about traffic signs, crosswalks, bus safety and stranger danger.

Safety City 2017 was Sept. 19 and 20 at the various elementary schools throughout the district with more than 300 kindergarten students being served from six elementary schools in Newton and Colfax.

The event was coordinated by the Newton Police Department’s Traffic Safety Officer and School Resource Officer.

Each child was presented with a junior police badge and a certificate for completing the Safety City course.

The Newton Police Department has hosted this event for more than 30 years.
