Newton woman charged with assault of juvenile

A Newton woman is charged with assault following an incident with a juvenile.

Amanda M. Mowery, 31, faces two charges of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness after officers were called at 1:50 p.m. Sept. 10 to a residence in the 1400 block of North 11th Avenue East.

Mowery is accused of hitting the juvenile several times in the face because the juvenile had reprimanded other children at the apartment complex. Mowery allegedly had to be pulled off the juvenile by the juvenile’s boyfriend in an incident that occurred near the juvenile’s residence. The male also received injuries including a scratch on his neck and a visible injury to his elbow and also told officers Mowery punched him in the face.

Three witnesses provided written statements about the incident with one of the witnesses identifying Mowery as the aggressor.

Mowery was cited and released to appear before a judge at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 24.
