Mustangs split four at North Mahaska tournament

NEW SHARON — Prairie City-Monroe’s volleyball team went 2-1 against South Iowa Cedar League teams and split its four matches in all at the North Mahaska tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated North Mahaska and Tri-County in straight sets. The two losses came against Lynnville-Sully and WACO.

PCM defeated North Mahaska 21-9, 21-15. Junior Maddie Samson led the Mustangs with nine kills, senior Madison Foster tallied 12 assists and senior Olivia Lippman recorded 10 digs.

Samson was 10-of-10 in serves with one ace, and Lippman was 11-of-12 with an ace. PCM (8-11) was 35-of-37 in serves with four aces as a team.

The Mustangs downed Tri-County 21-10, 21-12. Samson finished with seven kills, Foster collected 10 assists, Lippman had three digs and junior Avery Stock served up six aces. Senior Regan Olson tallied four kills.

Stock was 12-of-13 in serves. Foster was 8-of-9. The Mustangs were 36-of-42 in all.

PCM lost to WACO in three sets. WACO won 21-17, 20-22, 15-9.

Samson and Olson each had eight kills in the win. The only other two kills by the Mustangs were recorded by freshman Emma Houser. Foster finished with 11 assists, Lippman tallied eight digs and Stock served up three aces.

Samson had two aces and three assists and Foster had three digs.

The Mustangs were 39-of-44 in serves. Stock was 12-of-12, Foster served 10-of-10 and Samson was 8-of-8.

The only SICL team the Mustangs didn’t beat Saturday was Lynnville-Sully. The Hawks won in straight sets 21-15, 21-17.

Samson finished with eight kills and Olson tallied five kills. Foster dished out seven assists and sophomore Shelby Voeller had four. Lippman and senior Kinsey Phipps each had three digs and Houser contributed a pair of aces.

Houser (7-of-7), Foster (5-of-5), Stock (2-of-2) and Voeller (2-of-2) were all perfect from behind the service line. The Mustangs were 27-of-32 as a team.

PCM returns to the floor at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Class 3A No. 7 Gilbert.
