Cardinal JV football team loses in OT

NORWALK — Newton High’s junior varsity football team dropped a 15-13 decision in overtime to host Norwalk on Monday.

Norwalk scored first in the game for a 7-0 lead. Newton marched 98 yards to tie the game on a 5-yard Logan Cummins TD run. Will Cheng kicked the extra point.

The teams were locked in the 7-all tie from the second quarter on. They went to overtime with Norwark scoring first again including a 2-point conversion.

The Cardinals got into the end zone on a 6-yard TD pass from Kyle Long to Julian Hotchkin. Unfortunately, Newton’s 2-point conversion run was stopped short of the goal line by the Warriors.

Newton was led by Cummins with 113 yards rushing on 13 carries. Long went 11-of-22 passing to seven different receivers for 153 yards. Cody Satterfield was the leading receiver.

Leading the Newton defense were Kaleb Dydel, Blake Sevenbergen, Logan Henning and Clay Meyer as each recorded a quarterback sack.

The Cardinal junior varsity (1-1) plays at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Burlington.
