DMACC adds CSI certificate

Des Moines Area Community College has added a Crime Scene Investigation certificate.

“The CSI certificate is a great addition to the DMACC Criminal Justice Program,” DMACC Criminal Justice Instructor Danielle Galien said. “Technology advancements have led to an increased reliance on forensic science technicians. DMACC is preparing students for an exciting, fast-paced and highly technical career that is in demand.”

The DMACC Criminal Justice Certificate is a 20 credit program filled with hands-on courses such as forensic photography, impressions and bloodstains and effective courtroom testimony, taught by industry veterans. Galien said it’s great training for students pursuing criminal justice careers or working professionals who want to add criminal investigation skills to their resume.

Galien’s extensive criminal investigation background includes 15 years as a crime scene investigator with the Des Moines Police Department. She is specialized in bloodstain pattern analysis, arson and explosives and cellphone forensics and has worked on hundreds of death investigations.
