Man charged in taxi driver’s death held on $1M bond

IOWA CITY — A parolee accused of shooting and killing an Iowa City taxi driver last month is being held on $1 million bond. The cash-only bond was set for 41-year-old Curtis Cortez Jones on Friday. Jones has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old cab driver Ricky Ray Lillie, who was found dead June 28 in his cab.
Jones was arrested June 30.

Investigators say they determined Jones entered Lillie’s cab and took an uninterrupted ride to a street near the motel, shot the driver in the head and left the scene.

Department of Corrections records show Jones has been in and out of prison since 2001. He was granted parole last October on a burglary charge.
