Officials say 1 woman dead in northern Iowa house fire

ALGONA — Officials say one person has died and two others have been injured in a northern Iowa house fire.

The fire happened early Tuesday in the town of Algona. The Algona Fire Department says it received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. reporting a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from the house and located the fire in a bedroom. Authorities say the house was occupied by three women. Two were taken to an Algona hospital and the third was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not released the names of the women.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
