Hawk squads win SICL road games

BELLE PLAINE — Lynnville-Sully’s softball and baseball teams claimed road victories in South Iowa Cedar League play on Monday. The Hawk squads were playing at Belle Plaine.

In a 2-2 game, the Hawk boys took advantage of six Belle Plaine errors and three base hits to plate eight runs in the top of the sixth inning. Lynnville-Sully won 10-3 to improve to 5-1 in SICL action and 6-3 overall.

The Hawk girls were locked in a 5-5 game after six innings. They scored two runs in the seventh and held Belle Plaine scoreless for the win. Lynnville-Sully’s softball team has won six games in a row. It is 4-2 in conference play and 6-3 overall.

Tyler Van Zante got the win for the Hawk baseball team, working 5 1/3 innings as the starter. He was charged with three runs on six hits and two walks. Van Zante struck out nine. Blaize Kahlmann worked 1 2/3 innings, striking out three.

Rylan James led the eight-hit attack by the Hawks with two singles. Hitting a single each were Caden Dunsbergen, Carson Dunsbergen, Elijah Collins, Bray Noun Harder, Corbin James and Josh Dunsbergen.

The softball game was back and forth with Lynnville-Sully up 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Belle Plaine pushed across the tying runs, but couldn’t hold the Hawks in the seventh.

Mallory Loftus had a complete game performance in the circle. She allowed eight hits, walked tow and struck out three.

McKinley Conover delivered two doubles and a single at the plate for Lynnville-Sully. She drove in three runs. Carson Fisk had two base hits and two stolen bases. Korinne Jansen had two singles.

Caitlin Alberts doubled. Haley James and Brenna Lanser each had a single.

Lynnville-Sully’s softball team hosts Newton for a varsity game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sully. The junior varsity game follows at 7:30 p.m.

The Lynnville-Sully softball and baseball teams host Sigourney at 6 p.m. Wednesday in SICL games at Sully.
