Mohawks take doubleheader from Hawks

MORAVIA — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks dropped a non-conference doubleheader to host Moravia Thursday. The Mohawks claimed a 9-1 victory in the opener then won in nine innings, 4-3, over the Hawks.

Lynnville-Sully (4-3) used three pitchers in the first game — Bray Noun Harder, Evan Squires and Elijah Collins. They gave up four hits and issued 11 walks.

Moravia had a 9-0 lead when Lynnville-Sully pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning. Blaize Kuhlmann singled and Elijah Collins drove in the run.

Caden Dunsbergen tripled in the game. Carson Dunsbergen hit a single.

In the night cap, the Hawks led 3-1 after three innings. Moravia tied the game up with a two run fourth and the teams went scoreless for the next four and a half innings. The Mohawks tallied the game-winner in the extra-inning contest in the ninth.

Josh Dunsbergen took the loss, pitching one inning, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. Isaac Collins was the Lynnville-Sully starter, going 3 2/3 innings and giving up three runs on two hits and seven walks. He strike out one.

Kuhlmann threw 3 1/3 innings of one-hit scoreless ball for the Hawks. He walked four batters and struck out five.

Elijah Collins had a double while Carson Dunsbergen and Tyler Van Zante each had a single. Van Zante, Corbin James and Cody Gibbs each had an RBI.

Lynnville-Sully plays at 6 p.m. Friday against HLV in a home South Iowa Cedar League game in Sully.
