Raider girls win fourth straight

URBANDALE — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter girls’ soccer team won its fourth straight game Thursday when it claimed a 2-1, shootout with Des Moines Christian.

The Raiders and Lions were tied at 1-all after regulation and two overtime sessions.

Junior Tatum Tremain scored her 14th goal of the season in the second half.

In the shootout, CMB got goals from freshmen Cailtyn Bruntz and Maya Phelps, junior Tatum Tremain and senior Emily Coughenour.

“Playing three games in four days took lots of effort, but the girls stayed the course and were determined to pick up the seventh win of the season,” CMB girls soccer coach Gary Cummings said.

“I could not be prouder of the effort they gave.”

CMB goalie Amanda Harrington won the game for the Raiders when she stopped three out of the four attempts from the Lions in the shootout.

Harrington saved 15 shots in the win.

The four straight wins improve the Raiders’ record to 7-6.

Chariton has now lost four straight and is 4-10.

CMB plays Dallas Center-Grimes in the opening round of the regional tournament at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Grimes.
