Hawk track teams wrap up regular season

MONTEZUMA — Lynnville-Sully’s boys shared the 2017 Darrll Brand Relays title with host Montezuma. Both teams scored 123 points at Monday’s meet.

Belle Plaine won the girls’ division with 128 points. Lynnville-Sully’s girls were fourth in the six-team field with 115 points.

Jelissa Rozendaal won the girls’ shot put gold medal with a throw of 35 feet, 6 inches. She was sixth in the discus at 81-16 as Janelle Rozendaal claimed third in the event at 88-6. Mallory Loftus placed fourth in the high jump at 4-8.

Makayla Rozendaal ran a winning time of 13 minutes, 11 seconds in the 3,000 meters and Haley Breeden was fifth in 14:44. Rozendaal was second in the 1,500 in 5:59.71 and Kennedy Roland finished third in 6:04.24.

The Hawk girls’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Brenna Lanser, Loftus, Abby Gruver and Camryn Russell took the gold medal in 1:11.00.

Loftus was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.59 seconds and Kaylee Maasdam was sixth in 19.86. Gruver ran second in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.97 and Ashton Thompson placed sixth in 1:18.51.

Lynnville-Sully’s team of Lydia Akergren, Makenzy Rozendaal, Russell and Lanser combined for first in the 4x100 relay race in 53.25 seconds. The same four ran second in the 4x200 relay race in 1:53.63.

Kaleah Ehresman took third in the 100-meter dash in 14.08 and Breeden was third in the 800 in 2:53.60. Hailey Scandridge placed sixth in the 400 meters in 1:17.23.

In the girls’ 4x800 relay race, Lynnville-Sully’s Breeden, Roland, Emily Van Gorp and Thompson took fourth in 12:07.03. The 4x400 team of Scandridge, Loftus, Gruver and Breeden placed fifth in 4:42.40.

The Hawk girls’ distance medley relay team of Maasdam, Madison Johnson, Brittney Hansen and Shaleah Van Wyk was fifth in 5:46.03. The team of Akergren, Makenzy Rozendaal, Thompson and Scandridge turned in a sixth-place time of 2:13.44 in the sprint medley race.

Lynnville-Sully’s boys won seven events at Montezuma. It started with Drake Ehresman and Carson Dunsbergen going 1-2 in the high jump, both clearing 5-8.

The sprint medley relay team of Zage Zylstra, Nate Stock, Tyson Vander Linden and Corey McCoy claimed the gold in 1:36.33. In the distance medley relay race, the Hawk foursome of Jason Craver, Elijah Collins, Ethan Wyma and Cody Gibbs won in 4:01.89.

McCoy was the 400-meter winner in 51.83 seconds with Gage Vander Leest in third at 55.90 seconds. Ehresman was fifth in the 800 in 2:23.15.

Hofer won the 110 hurdles in 15.82 seconds and Vander Linden took the gold in the 400 hurdles in 56.13. Hofer combined with Vander Leest, Caden Dunsbergen and Carson Dunsbergen to win the shuttle hurdle relay race in 1:02.30.

Josh Dunsbergen ran second in the 1,600 in 5:13.00 and Gibbs was sixth in 5:27. Josh Dunsbergen took third in the 3,200 in 12:40.15.

Rylan James collected the second-place medal in the shot put. He had throw of 48 feet. Grant Wehrle took sixth at 37-8.

Lynnville-Sully’s 4x800 relay team of Brevin Hansen, McCoy, Ehresman and Carson Dunsbergen finished second in 9:12.40. The 4x400 team of Luke Jones, Kinnick McFarland, Wyma and Ty Breeden was fourth in 4:03.57.

The 4x200 team of Caden Dunsbergen, Jones, Kemper Lukehart and Jesse VanWyk was sixth in 1:46.78.

Lynnville-Sully’s girls and boys are in a Class 1A state qualifying meet at 4 p.m. Thursday at Belle Plaine.
