Underwood wins, C-M golf falls to Iowa Valley

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo sophomore Delaney Underwood and Iowa Valley’s Carleigh Smith went head-to-head as the top two golfers in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Smith was the No. 1 golfer coming into Thursday, but Underwood got the best of her on her home course.

Underwood won medalist honors for the Tigerhawks with a 46, but Colfax-Mingo was swept by Iowa Valley at the Colfax Country Club.

Iowa Valley’s girls defeated the Tigerhawks 217-234.

The Tiger boys defeated Colfax-Mingo 173-215.

Underwood came into the day with a nine-hole average of 47.67 but was nearly two strokes better than that Thursday. Smith was nearly two shots worse than her 45.83 average.

The other three counting scores for the Tigerhawks were senior Amy Russell’s 61, freshman Sydni Hostetter’s 63 and sophomore Chelsea Russell’s 64.

The non-counting scores came from sophomore Camilla Schlosser (70) and freshman Brielle Reed (72).

On the boys side, sophomore No. 1 Ahren Teed continued to lead the Tigerhawks with a 50.

The rest of the lineup was shifted around based on recent play. Freshman Brady Berkey was moved to the No. 5 position but had the second best score of 51.

Sophomore Nic Duffy moved up to the No. 2 position and had the third best score of 55.

No. 4 Skyler Aikin, a sophomore, had the fourth best score of 59.

The two non-counting scores came from juniors Wyatt Smith (62) and Jake Dunsbergen (64).

Senior Cameron Warner shot a 51 in a junior varsity position. Junior Jarod Nichols carded a 69 as another JV player.

Iowa Valley’s Gabe Ritter won medalist honors with a 41 and Noah Mumby had a 43 as the runner-up medalist.
