C-M boys finish tied for seventh at Van Meter

VAN METER — Competing in a heavy Class 2A field Monday, the Colfax-Mingo boys’ track and field team brought home two third-place finishes and a trio of fourth-place medals at the Van Meter Bulldog Invitational.

Junior Reegan Van Dyke collected a third-place finish in the high jump and then anchored the 4x200 relay team to bronze medal.

The Tigerhawks also were fourth in the 4x400 relay and senior Jimmy Camp was fourth in the shot put and sophomore Ethan Summy finished fourth in the long jump.

Colfax-Mingo tied for seventh in the team standings with Colo-NESCO as both teams scored 45 points. The only 1A school who finished higher than the Tigerhawks was Nodaway Valley, which scored 74 points in fifth.

Woodward Academy (154) was the team champion, while Van Meter (110) and Des Moines (100) were second and third, respectively. Pleasantville (88) was fourth and Panorama (63) finished sixth.

All five schools are 2A programs. There were six 2A schools in the 11-team field.

Van Dyke’s best leap in the high jump was marked at 5 feet, 8 inches. The 4x200 team of Summy, senior Adam Teed, sophomore Holister Koenig and Van Dyke finished in a season-best time of 1 minute, 38.65 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Koenig, Van Dyke, Summy and Teed finished fourth in a season-best 3:46.39.

Camp’s best throw in the shot put was a season-best 43-2 1/2 and Summy’s top mark in the long jump was a season-best 18-10.

Summy collected three medals on the night, and the Tigerhawks turned in 23 season-best performances.

Colfax-Mingo competes at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Martensdale-St. Marys.
