PCM girls golf wins at Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE — Two meets, two wins. The Prairie City-Monroe girls’ golf team came out on top for the second straight meet Thursday night.

The Mustangs played a triangular at Pleasantville Golf Course and came home with a win after firing a 189. Carlisle shot a 210 in second, and host Pleasantville carded a 241.

“We were just seven shots off tying our nine-hole school record so I think we can break that record this season,” PCM coach Val Edwards said.

Three Mustangs had scores in the 40s.

Senior Breanna Maher was the runner-up medalist with a 41, junior Madeline Mitchell carded a 45 and junior Sabrina Reed finished with a personal-best 48.

The final counting score came from sophomore Lexi Reed, who finished with a personal-best 55.

Sophomore Mack Bussan shot a non-counting 57 and junior Ellie Steenhoek fired a 63. Freshman Alexis Dross shot a 58, and freshman Brooke Dross carded a 70 for the PCM JV.

Carlisle’s Macey Brower won medalist honors with a 39. Pleasantville’s best score came from Emma Jahner, who shot a 50.

Maher’s round included four pars and a birdie, but her score was hurt by a double bogey on No. 2. Brower carded two birdies in the win.

The Mustangs start a busy week with an 18-hole tournament at 2 p.m. Monday in Bondurant.

They also play 18 holes at State Center on Tuesday and 18 holes at Oskaloosa on Thursday.
