Joan C. Tullberg

Joan C. Tullberg, 85, of Maryville, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, with her family at her side. Joan was born March 23, 1932, in Galesburg, Ill.

Her parents were Clarence Alvin and Ruth Elizabeth (Hale) Ekstrand. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her grandson, Mark Tullberg; and her son-in-law, Patrick Mahany.

Joan graduated from the Dewitt high school, class of 1950. She then graduated from the Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. Her first job was at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

On July 10, 1953, in Gowrie, Joan was united in marriage to Roland H. Tullberg. They spent 63 years together before her passing.

She had also worked as an RN for care centers in Iowa City and Newton, and had worked at the Maryville Living Center in Maryville, Mo. The family had moved to Maryville in 1976, from Solon.

Joan was a member and attended Hope Lutheran Church in Maryville and the Lutheran Women’s League. She was a tireless worker for the annual church rummage sale. She unselfishly served her Lord, her family, and the people she cared for in her profession. She supported and attend all her children’s school and church activities.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Dr. Roland of the home in Maryville; her five children, David (Sallie) Tullberg of Kilgore, Texas, Linda (Dr.Greg) Thomas of Council Bluffs, Roger (Liz) Tullberg of Indian Hills, Colo., Kevin (Michelle) Tullberg of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Karen Mahany of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; her brother, Richard (Doris) Ekstrand of Hiawatha; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Maryville. The burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Maryville.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, Mo.
