Colfax-Mingo boys finish fourth at W-G

WOODWARD — The Colfax-Mingo boys’ golf team played its first competitive 18 holes of the season Tuesday.

The Class 1A Tigerhawks faced two 2A programs and 3A Saydel and came home with a fourth-place finish.

Colfax-Mingo shot a 406 as a team. Sophomore Ahren Teed carded an 87, which put him fourth overall.

Host Woodward-Granger won the meet with a 356, Saydel shot a 362 and Earlham carded a 391 in third.

“My young men competed very well,” Colfax-Mingo coach Nick Noring said. “It was a great meet for our mental toughness and training for our bodies to play 18 consecutive holes.”

Freshman Brady Berkey had the second-best score for the Tigerhawks.

Berkey was 16 shots back of Teed with a 103. Junior Wyatt Smith shot a 107 and sophomore Skyler Aikin had the final counting score of 109.

The two non-counting scores came from sophomore Nic Duffy (111) and junior Jake Dunsbergen (120).

The Tigerhawks play in a co-ed meet at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Lynnville-Sully.
