Deadline for Liheap application is in April

April is the final month to apply for the 2016-2017 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (Liheap).

The program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights/DCAA, and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs.

The Impact Community Action Partnership agency, 115 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton, will be taking applications until April 28. Applicants will need to furnish some form of identification, a copy of their most recent heating and electric bill, telephone bill, and proof of all household members’ gross income for the past three months or the past calendar year.

The assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel and other factors.

This program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. This is a one-time payment to your energy provider.
