Darrell was born on Oct. 8, 1941 in Marshalltown to Virgil and Ruth (Gustafson) Foreman. He graduated from Baxter High School in 1959. Following school Darrell joined the Navy and served from 1959 to 1964. After returning home from serving his country Darrell married Nancy Butler on June 6, 1965 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter, Iowa. Darrell was very proud of his 51 year marriage. The couple resided in Baxter where they raised their two sons. Darrell and Nancy owned and operated Foreman Electric and Hardware in Baxter for more than 40 years. Darrell was a very active part of the community and served on the Baxter School Board for 15 years, Baxter Senior Citizen Board, Jasper County Disaster Committee, and the Baxter Fire Department for 37 years of which he served as Fire Chief for 20 years. He was a member of the Baxter Masonic Unit Lodge 520, and the Baxter American Legion Post #493. Darrell was able to attend the Jasper County Honor Flight in 2013. The Fire Department was Darrell’s passion but he also enjoyed trap shooting, woodworking, going to the Casino, cheering on the Cyclones, and camping at the Iowa State Fair with his family for more than 40 years. He will miss the nightly coke/beer happy hour in Dean Flora’s garage with the guys.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Nancy Foreman; sons Scott (Niesha) Foreman, and Todd (Cindy) Foreman; grandchildren Nathan and Maddy; a special daughter Crystal Shanks (Sunshine); sister Darlene (Bill) Clifton; brother-in-law Richard Butler; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
