AMES — One of the most consistent point scorers over the past several seasons for the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ track team has been in the throwing events.

That appears to be something that will continue this season as sophomore Will Clapper and senior Brady Kemp both scored top-eight finishes at the 24th Annual Iowa State Boys High School Classic at the Lied Athletic Recreation Facility.

Clapper had a career-best throw in his second meet of the season, finishing fourth with a toss of 50 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Kemp was eighth overall with a throw of 47-1 1/4.

There were 95 throwers in all. Prairie City-Monroe senior Leevi Telfer was 31st overall with a throw of 42-3 1/4, while Colfax-Mingo senior Jimmy Camp placed 34th with a toss of 42-0 1/2.

The other top 10 finish from an area athlete came from Colfax-Mingo junior Reegan Van Dyke. He tied for eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5-10. CMB sophomore Ben Huff was 36th out of 73 total jumpers with a leap of 5-4.

PCM sophomore Cole Dustin had the next highest finish among area teams. He placed 28th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.11 seconds. CMB senior Ben Gunderson finished 40th out of 97 competitors with a time of 9.30.

In other individual events, CMB sophomore Ian Thomson was 49th out of 108 total runners in the 3,200 and Colfax-Mingo sophomore Holister Koenig was 71st out of 137 runners in the 400. C-M senior Adam Teed was three positions back of Koenig in 74th.

Thomson finished his two-mile run in 10 minutes, 52.98 seconds. Koenig crossed the finish line in his 400 in 57.25 seconds, while Teed finished in 57.51.

Colfax-Mingo junior Alex Lewis finished 74th out of 120 runners in the 1,600 with a time of 5:24.08.

The top area relay finish Tuesday came from the Raiders in the 4x800. CMB’s foursome of junior Carter Fricke, senior Evan Bianchi, junior Max Van Maanen and senior Jack Cheville finished 33rd with a time of 9:11.16.

CMB competes in the Pekin Indoor meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Central College.

Colfax-Mingo competes in the South Iowa Cedar League Indoor meet at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Grinnell College.

PCM is done with the indoor portion of its season. The Mustangs open the outdoor season at 4:15 p.m. on March 28 at East Marshall.
