Congressman Steve King’s tweet about how “we can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies” bothers me a lot.
He is referring to white babies. He wants more white babies. However, the numbers don’t support his wishes. Using 2014 statistics, there were 11.6 white births per 1,000 population. while black births were 19.5/1,000; Asian births were 18.4/1,000 and Hispanic births were 20.3/1,000 population. Clearly the chances are we are going to be seeing more “dark eyes” and speaking for myself, I welcome the diversity this represents.
Our culture will be enriched in every way — food, art, music, dance, poetry, etc.
As an older Iowan, I see the need for younger people in our work force. My wish is that we be a welcoming community for all Iowa babies, regardless of where their genetics came from.
