NHS Hall of Fame nominations are sought

It’s Newton High School Hall of Fame time. Nominations for the fourth class of the NHS Hall of Fame are being taken.

This is an all inclusive Hall of Fame, not an athletic Hall of Fame. Outstanding former Newton High athletes may be nominated, but the NHS Hall of Fame is to recognize Newton High graduates from all walks of life.

Nominations are being asked for from NHS alumni and Newton community members. The deadline is April 1.

Nomination forms for the Hall of Fame are online at: www.newton-cardinals.com. Just click on the forms button at the top of the main page, and go to Hall of Fame nomination form.

Nomination forms and information on the 2017 NHS Alumni Brunch can be obtained at the Newton Senior High School office.

The purpose of the Newton High School Hall of Fame is to honor individuals and organizations that have made exceptional achievements in their field, significant contributions to Newton High School, or unique contributions to their communities at the local, state, national or international levels. Hall of Fame inductees will serve as examples of the quality education that NHS provides and as role models for current students and staff to achieve success in their chosen fields.

Newton alumni who have distinguished themselves in the fields of athletics, arts (including authors, musicians, visual artists, and journalists), business, education (at any level), government, science, or service (non-profit or religious) are eligible for nomination.

Additional categories for consideration are retired staff from the Newton Community School District, and any individual or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the success of Newton High School.

Until 2014, there was an informal hall of fame at Newton. With the guidance of NHS athletic/activities director Scott Garvis, the NHS Hall of Fame was formed.

Alumni must be graduates from 2005 or earlier. Staff must be retired at least five years and have worked for the school for a minimum of 10 years, and the community organizations and individuals must have served NHS for 10 or more years or made major or significant contributions to the school.

A committee will review the nominations, and completed nomination forms will be kept on file for five years.

If you know of a former NHS student who has or is making outstanding contributions to his or her chosen field, nominate them for the 2017 NHS Hall of Fame class.
