Third quarter dooms PCM boys against Knoxville

MONROE — One quarter doomed the Prairie City-Monroe boys’ basketball team Monday against Knoxville.

The Mustangs outscored the Panthers by four points in the first, second and fourth quarters but a 17-point difference in the third quarter guided visiting Knoxville to a fourth straight win during a non-conference contest.

Knoxville outscored PCM 28-11 in the third quarter and defeated the Mustangs 71-58. It was the sixth straight loss for PCM (9-10).

PCM led 15-12 after one but trailed by one point at halftime. The Mustangs won the fourth quarter 17-12.

Jackson Thomas scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. Derek Brown added 16 points and eight rebounds. Mark Bruxvoort scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds. Noah Lanphier collected six boards and Andrew Van Ryswyk finished with five rebounds.

PCM plays North Polk in conference girl-boy varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Alleman.
