Clapper leads CMB boys to win over Comets

ALLEMAN — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys basketball team lost a home game to North Polk on Thursday. Five days later, the Raiders turned the table on the Comets and won their third Heart of Iowa Conference game with a 49-40 road victory.

Sophomore Will Clapper scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win, while freshman Cole Damman scored 13 points and junior Travis Lindemoen chipped in nine points.

The Raiders had 10 steals in the game, led by senior Hunter McWhirter’s three. Lindemoen, sophomore Ian Thomson and Clapper all had two steals. McWhirter grabbed four boards.

CMB (4-14 overall, 3-11 in the HOIC) made 18-of-42 from the floor. The Raiders connected on 4-of-15 from 3-point range.

Damman made three of his six shots from long range.

North Polk’s two-game win streak was snapped. The Comets (5-12, 4-9) had won three of their last four games.

Nathan Parker (19) and Caleb Lomica (17) scored 36 of the Comets’ 40 points.

North Polk 50, CMB 25

A tough shooting night doomed the Raider girls Tuesday in a 50-25 HOIC loss to North Polk.

The Comets won their seventh straight game with a solid defensive performance. CMB was held to single digits in each quarter. North Polk (14-5, 11-3) led 11-2 after one quarter and held a 15-8 lead at halftime.

The second half was all North Polk as it outscored CMB 35-17.

Junior Brianda Bane led the Raiders (9-11, 7-8) with nine points and three rebounds, while freshman Mikayla Houge added four points and a team-high five rebounds.

Senior Mikayla Eslinger grabbed four rebounds and senior Megan Ritter chipped in four points, two steals and two rebounds.

The Raiders connected on 10-of-36 from the floor. They turned it over 25 times in the loss.
