North Polk sweeps CMB

BAXTER — Hampered by 25 turnovers and another poor shooting performance, the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter girls basketball team lost to North Polk during a Heart of Iowa Conference game Thursday night.

The Raiders hung around with the Comets for most of the way, but North Polk surged ahead in the second half during a 45-37 win.

Junior Brianda Bane scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, senior Kathleen Baldwin had nine points and seven rebounds and senior Sydney Ziesman added eight points and three boards fo the Raiders (8-9 overall, 6-6 in the HOIC).

CMB made just 13-of-33 from the floor. The Raiders trailed by one after one quarter and two after two quarters. North Polk outscored CMB 24-18 in the second half.

North Polk won its fifth straight game. The Comets stayed in third place in the HOIC, improving to 12-5 overall and 10-3 in the HOIC.

North Polk 51, CMB 38

The Raiders were outscored by 15 points coming out of the locker room Tuesday during a HOIC game against North Polk.

The Comets led 14-8 after one quarter and outscored the Raiders 16-7 in the third during a 13-point victory.

CMB made only 13-of-51 from the floor and connected on 4-of-21 from 3-point range.

The Raiders lost their eighth straight game and dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-10 in the HOIC.

North Polk (5-11, 4-8) won its second straight game and has now won three of its last four games.

Sophomore Will Clapper was the lone Raider in double-figures as he scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior Braydon Aker added five points and pulled down five rebounds.

Senior Hunter McWhirter scored four points and grabbed four rebounds, while freshman Cole Damman put in six points.

The Raiders play Saydel in a HOIC varsity doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. Friday in Des Moines.
