Raiders split two with Greene County

JEFFERSON — Junior Brianda Bane scored a season-high 21 points, had four steals and blocked four shots, and the Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak on the road with a 57-37 victory over Greene County during Heart of Iowa Conference action Friday.

CMB led by seven after one and improved that margin to eight at halftime. Greene County closed the gap to five heading into the fourth, but the Raiders dominated the final eight minutes, outscoring the Rams 23-8.

Freshman Mikayla Houge scored a career-high eight points and finished with three steals, while senior Emily Coughenour chipped in six points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out five assists and collected three steals.

Senior Kathleen Baldwin scored six points, while senior Mikayla Eslinger put in four points and tallied a team-high seven rebounds.

The Raiders won the game despite shooting 18-of-57 from the floor and 15-of-23 from the free-throw line. Bane connected on 10-of-11 from the foul line.

CMB improved to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play. Greene County dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the HOIC.

Greene County 93, CMB 62

JEFFERSON — Greene County outscored CMB 29-10 in the first quarter and 28-11 in the fourth quarter and won going away in large part due to 39 points from senior Trey Tucker.

Tucker now has 1,540 career points, which is a new school record.

The Raiders outscored the Rams 41-36 in the second and third quarters but couldn’t overcome the deficits in the first and last periods.

Freshman Cole Damman had 12 points, while senior Hunter McWhirter, junior Travis Lindemoen and sophomore Ian Thomson all put in 11 points in the loss. Junior Braydon Aker had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

Damman and McWhirter also grabbed three rebounds, and McWhirter delivered two assists.

The Raiders did not have the services of leading scorer Will Clapper, who was out of town on vacation all of last week.

The Raiders lost their fourth straight game and are now 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the HOIC. Greene County improved to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

CMB hosts Roland-Story in a conference varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Baxter.
