Easley scores in bowl game for Iowa Western

CEDAR FALLS — Former Newton High standout Nick Easley caught two long touchdown passes for Iowa Western Community College in Sunday’s Graphic Edge Bowl. The IWCC Reivers lost 28-21 to NJCAA No. 9 Holmes Community College of Mississippi.

The 2016 Graphic Edge Bowl was played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Easley scored the first TD of the bowl game when he hauled in a 49-yard pass from Reiver quarterback Andre Nunez in the first quarter. He broke a 14-all tie in the second quarter when he scored on a 43-yard pass play from Nunez.

Holmes scored twice in the final minute of the third quarter to go up 28-21. There was no scoring in the fourth period.

Easley, who is a 6-foot, 204-pound sophomore wide receiver, finished the game with six catches for 134 yards. IWCC finished the season at 6-6.

Easley led his team and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in receiving this season. He was first in receptions and yards — 67 catches for 914 yards. He was first in yards per game, 76.2, and fourth in yards per catch. He was second in touchdown catches with seven.

Easley had two TD catches in a 34-29 win over Dodge City (Kan.), one TD each in wins over Butler Community College and Fort Scott Community College, both of Kansas. He also had one TD reception in a 20-17 victory over Iowa Central.

Easley ended up with 1,063 all-purpose yards for the 2016 season. He had 29 yards rushing and 120 yards in kick returns.

As a freshman at IWCC, Easley caught 17 passes for 197 yards and one TD.

Easley is being recruited by several four-year programs, including a couple Division I schools.
