Lindsay gets promotion, takes over PCM baseball team

MONROE — For several years, Jeff Lindsay held down two head coaching positions at Colfax-Mingo.

After the Prairie City-Monroe school board made things official Monday night, Lindsay once again has the responsibility of leading two programs. This time, a few miles down the road.

Lindsay was named PCM baseball coach Monday after serving as Shaun Hudnut’s assistant coach for the last seven seasons. Hudnut resigned from the post in July.

“The fact I know the kids will help with the transition,” Lindsay said. “The returning kids will understand what I expect and what I am about. The only thing different moving forward is the fact my expectations are different as the varsity coach than they were as the JV coach.”

Lindsay was the head girls’ basketball coach and baseball coach at Colfax-Mingo before coming over to PCM as Hudnut’s assistant baseball coach seven years ago. Lindsay will have the same role with the Mustangs as he is in his second season as girls basketball coach.

“I had a good feeling about him,” PCM Athletic Director Greg Bonnett said about Lindsay. “He has good experience, and I know he has the respect of the players. He’s also a guy that I can trust.”

Before becoming Colfax-Mingo’s head coach, Lindsay was an assistant coach at Pleasantville for five years. He takes over a PCM program which has won 32 games the past three seasons.

“There won’t be a lot of big changes from what we were doing before,” Lindsay said. “Everyone has different philosophies though. I don’t want to teach each kid the same way. I’ll play the game that my team is suited for.”
