NCEF seeks nominations for Excellence In Education awards

The purpose of the Excellence in Education Award is to recognize teaching excellence in the Newton Community School District. Candidates may be nominated by students, parents, alumni, and members of the community. The NCEF is looking for great stories of learning and life-changing moments, and these stories come by encouraging those whose lives have been touched by an excellent educator to nominate.

For consideration, a candidate should be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled faculty member who plans to remain active as a professional educator. Candidates should inspire students to learn and have the respect, admiration and support of students, parents, and colleagues, and play an active role in the community. Prior winners of the Excellence In Education Award remain eligible.

Winners will receive a $250 award for classroom enrichment and a commemorative gift.
The 2016-17 nomination form is available online on the district website: NewtonCSD.org, under News and Announcements. Completed forms can be submitted to Building Principals, to the NCEF via email: newton.ncef@gmail.com or via postal mail: NCEF, P.O. Box 1062, Newton, IA 50208. Nominations will be accepted through Nov. 30.

Teachers honored earlier this year included: Jayne Freese (Aurora Heights Intermediate), Krysten Osby (Berg Elementary), Megan Frehse (Thomas Jefferson Elementary), Doug Smith (Woodrow Wilson Intermediate), Kathy Ventling (Basics and Beyond), and Niki Hively (Newton High School). Basics and Beyond Secretary Karen King received the Above and Beyond Award for one person in the community who has gone “above and beyond” to further the education and lives of Newton students.
