Appreciative of law enforcement efforts

Our family recently went through a tragedy with the loss of a family member, due to a drowning at the Metz Bridge.

I know that things like this happen, but I am really impressed by the quick and determined response from our local law enforcement team and emergency personnel. I went to check on my brother after he did not return home from fishing, around 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12. I could not find him but did find his fishing gear. I then called 911 and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded right away. They started a deputy search until dark that day. They then returned the next morning around 7 a.m. and searched with boats and search dogs until dark. The next morning they searched by air along the river banks. Then on Thursday they tried one more search with new equipment and thankfully found him. Chief Deputy Duane Rozendaal continued to reassure and inform the family members all the way through the search. I believe many others think of the sheriff’s office as just law enforcement. But they are so much more than that. They counsel, they help you through the hard times and work tirelessly to accomplish their job, with great concern and compassion.

We wanted to thank all of you and let you know how much your efforts mean to this family. Special thanks to Chief Deputy Rozendaal, the fire department and help from the other emergency teams from the surrounding towns. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Yes, our town is in good hands. Thank you and God bless you all.
