Hawks beat Trojans in SICL action

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s volleyball team won its third straight South Iowa Cedar League conference match Monday. The Hawks defeated visiting Tri-County’s Trojans in three sets.

Lynnville-Sully won the first two sets — 25-14, 25-15 — but the Trojans weren’t folding. They battled the Hawks in the third set, which Lynnville-Sully finally won 26-23.

Jataya Meyer led the net game with 10 kills for the Hawks. Brenna Lanser provided seven kills and one block assist. Camryn Russell chalked up a solo block and an assisted block and had four kills.

Shiloh Cunningham and Olivia Ritter each delivered three kills and Carson Fisk had two kills. Jelissa Rozendaal, Skyler Young and Mariah Vos each had one kill. Vos and Ritter had one block assist apiece.

The Hawks continue to be one of the better teams in the SICL at the service line. They were 90-of-96 in Monday’s match for 94 percent. The Hawks had 14 service aces led by Lanser’s four aces.

McKinley Conover (15-of-15), Fisk (10-of-10), Young (6-of-6) and Vos (4-of-4) were perfect at the service line. Lanser had two serving error out of 18 attempts while Russell went 17-of-18 and Jelissa Rozendaal was 12-of-13.

Lanser, who is atop the SICL in digs with 133 in conference play and 316 for the season, as credited with 17 digs against Tri-County. Fisk came up with 11 digs, and Russel had 10 digs. Meyer, Conover and Makayla Rozendaal each had six digs.

Fisk put up 12 set assists, and Vos had seven set assists. Jelissa Rozendaal had six set assists.

Lynnville-Sully improved to 4-3 in SICL play and 10-6 overall. The Hawks have one more regular-conference match, a home match Monday against Koeta in Sully.

The Hawks will finish up the regular season in the SICL Silver Quadrangular meet Oct. 13 at Sigourney. Lynnville-Sully, North Mahaska, Tri-County and Sigourney are in the Silver Quad.
