Ten former Newton High School football players came to the 50th anniversary reunion of the Newton 1966 Central Iowa Conference championship team. They represented the 1966 Cardinals before Friday’s NHS Homecoming game against Marshalltown at H.A. Lynn Stadium. Those attending were, left to right, front row, Ken Walker, Randy Brisel, Dennis Bewyer, John Krueger and Tom Lightner; back row, Rick Johnson, Merle Jorgenson, Jack Ferguson, Dennis Walker and Tom Weeks. The 1966 team defeated Marshalltown to clinch the CIC title. The 2016 Cardinals beat the Bobcats, 45-14, Friday to open Class 4A District 4 action, and improve to 5-0 on the season.
