Mingo man sentenced to 20 years for abusing two children

A Mingo man accused of inappropriately touching two children on multiple occasions between 2009 and 2015 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to court documents filed Monday, 34-year-old Lance S. Brown Jr. was sentenced to two consecutive 10-year prison terms for two counts of lascivious acts with a child.

He pleaded guilty to the charges during a June 20 plea hearing in Jasper County District Court.

Judge Terry Rickers has scheduled a Sept. 26 pretrial conference for Brown’s four remaining counts of second degree sexual abuse and two additional counts of lascivious acts with a child.

The court set a $50,000 bond on appeal for Brown.

Brown was arrested in April 2015 for inappropriately touching a female victim and giving her “medicine that would help her fall asleep faster,” according to a court document. The victim, who came forward in March 2015, said this was the only time she remembered Brown touching her inappropriately.

Another female victim came forward during the investigation, saying she remembered five occasions of abuse that occurred in a six-year period when the victim was between the ages of 4 and 11 years old, according to court documents.

A no contact order filed against Brown by the victims’ representatives has been extended for five years, and he will register as a sex offender in the State of Iowa.

Brown originally pleaded not guilt to the abuse and was released shortly after his arrest on a $50,000 bond while awaiting trial.
