August Photo Hikes at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will host our August Photo Hike from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

This program is free and open to the public. Participants will meet outside the Prairie Learning Center at 6:30 p.m. for a brief orientation, including an overview of some common summer flowers and wildlife that might be seen. Photographers will then be guided by a Ranger on a walk through the summer prairie.

There will be another Photo Hike from 7 to 9 a.m. Aug. 20. Participants will meet in the Prairie Learning Center.

Amateur and professional photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Bring your own camera equipment, comfortable shoes/boots, long pants, bug spray, sun block, a water bottle and your sense of wonder. Photographers will have the opportunity to participate in a photography exhibit in November and December.

Pre-registration is encouraged. Sign up in advance by contacting Doreen Van Ryswyk at 515-994-3400 or Doreen_vanryswyk@fws.gov.
