• Old Settlers 2016 activities begin at 5 p.m. Friday in downtown Monroe. Activities include pony rides, children’s parade, doubles horseshoes, water fights, night volleyball and a street dance featuring Jay Casmiri. For more information visit facebook.com/MonroeOldSettlers/.

• Boomerang in Concert will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Maytag Park at the Bowl in Newton. The performance is part of the Newton Parks and Grounds Division 2016 Summer Concert Series. Boomerang covers classic rock and soul from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

• Bat Netting will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ashton Wildwood Park near Baxter. The event will begin with an educational program on Iowa bats. At dusk special guest Russell Benedict will set up nets to give participants a chance to see live bats. This event is free and open to the public. • Curbside Cleanup Day will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday in Prairie City.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Neal Smith Bison Day will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. Activities include live music, live wildlife displays, arts and crafts, games, discovery hikes, children’s story-time and a weaver’s guild demonstration.
