• Boomerang in Concert will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Maytag Park at the Bowl in Newton. The performance is part of the Newton Parks and Grounds Division 2016 Summer Concert Series. Boomerang covers classic rock and soul from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
• Bat Netting will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ashton Wildwood Park near Baxter. The event will begin with an educational program on Iowa bats. At dusk special guest Russell Benedict will set up nets to give participants a chance to see live bats. This event is free and open to the public.
