Raider baseball holds off Madrid, loses to R-S

COLLINS — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak Wednesday following a 3-2 win over Madrid during non-conference action.

Junior Tucker Maxwell had two hits, two runs and one RBI in the victory, while four pitchers combined to hold the Tigers to three hits.

Junior Hunter McWhirter started on the mound and allowed one hit and struck out one in two innings. McWhirter earned the win, while junior Brady Kemp grabbed the save with a scoreless seventh inning.

Senior Brady Stover tossed the third and fourth innings and fanned four while allowing no hits and no runs. Brad Ritter, a senior, was on the mound in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.

Stover had one hit and one RBI with one walk at the plate, while Kemp was 1-for-3 and senior Aric Broderick walked and scored. Senior Nate Bishop drew two walks.

CMB (10-11) took a 1-0 lead in the second and extended the advantage to 3-0 in the sixth. Madrid (14-12) plated two runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.

Tuesday

Roland-Story 7, CMB 1

COLLINS — The Raiders were held to three hits against Roland-Story’s Jake Ford and Colby Gray during a Heart of Iowa Conference loss Tuesday.

CMB completed the conference season at 7-8. The Class 2A No. 9 Norsemen improved to 26-10 overall and 10-6 in HOIC play.

Stover, Ritter and McWhirter had the Raiders’ three hits. Ritter and McWhirter also drew walks, while junior Creighton Caple had two walks. The Raiders walked seven times in the game.

Stover started on the mound. He did not allow a hit but walked two while striking out three in two innings.

McWhirter kept the game scoreless in the third and fourth innings. He fanned three and allowed one hit.

Bishop allowed three runs — one earned — in his 2/3 of an inning and took the loss. Kemp and Caple also pitched.

Roland-Story’s Landon Greiner and Nathan Bell each went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
