Mustang baseball shuts out Nevada

PRAIRIE CITY — Sophomore Noah Henkenius tossed a complete-game, six-hitter on the mound and finished with two RBIs at the plate in Prairie City-Monroe’s 5-0 baseball victory over Nevada during Heart of Iowa Conference play on Wednesday night.

Henkenius (2-6) struck out five and allowed zero runs in seven innings. At the plate, he had one hit, one run, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Junior Ryan Hill also had two hits as the Mustangs (10-15 overall, 7-8 in the HOIC) won their second straight game and got their third win in four games.

Henkenius gave PCM a 1-0 lead with an RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Another sacrifice fly by freshman Brayton Van Dyke in the second inning made it 2-0. Henkenius and senior Tyler Foster both had RBI singles in the third to push the lead to 4-0.

Junior Braden Phifer capped the scoring with an RBI single in the fourth.

It was the 16th straight loss for the Nevada Cubs (1-21, 1-14).

The Mustangs play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gilbert.
