Hawk softball wins two in Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — After a disappointing conference loss to North Mahaska on Friday night, the Lynnville-Sully softball team bounced back and collected two impressive wins over a pair of Class 2A squads.

The Hawks lost to North Mahaska on Friday but drilled 2A No. 12 BCLUW, 13-5, in their opener of the annual Marshalltown Bobcat Invitational and then edged a good West Marshall team, 7-5, later in the day.

Lynnville-Sully jumped all over Comet pitching, scoring eight runs in the first two innings against junior Macy Kock. The Hawks did not face regular varsity starters Samantha Ubben and Olivia Calloway but had little trouble scoring against Kock, sophomore Lauren Anderson and freshman Bailey Ashton.

Hawk junior Brenna Lanser hit a pair of two-run homers in the first two innings, and L-S finished with 14 hits in the game.

Lanser now has seven home runs on the season, which puts her in a tie for fourth in 1A.
