BROOKLYN — The Colfax-Mingo softball team stayed in the hunt for the South Iowa Cedar League title Thursday during a 9-0 win over BGM.
The Tigerhawks cranked out 11 hits, and junior Amy Russell threw a four-hitter in the circle.
Sophomore Ries Wilson was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Two of her hits included her third homer of the year and a double.
Russell’s four-hitter included two strikeouts and two walks.
Russell improved to 10-3 on the season and improved her team-leading batting average following a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. She also had three RBIs and scored two runs.
Sophomore Rhiannon Haley had two hits and one RBI, while freshman Reghan Robinette was 2-for-4 with two runs.
The Tigerhawks (16-7) led 1-0 after one inning. Wilson homered in the two-run third inning and then Colfax-Mingo extended the lead to 4-0 after four.
The visitors put the game away with a five-run sixth inning.
Colfax-Mingo stays on top of the SICL with an 11-2 record. BGM dropped to 8-12 overall and 5-9 in league play.
The Tigerhawks play in the annual Marshalltown Bobcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
They face Class 3A Bondurant-Farrar at 1:30 p.m. Friday and then face 5A Marshalltown at 5 p.m. Saturday’s schedule includes an 11:45 a.m. game against 4A Marion and a 3:15 p.m. game against 5A Des Moines Roosevelt.
