Four things to know from June’s Newton Wellness Coalition meeting

1. The wellness coalition will participate in Newton’s Fourth of July parade. The group will once again hand out bananas along the parade route to help introduce healthy snacks to the crowd.

2. To help keep the public informed on wellness activities throughout the community, the coalition now has a website. The website has information about the message and goals of the coalition along with a calendar of upcoming events. Visit the site at www.newtonwellness.org.

3. The coalition began talking about hosting a health fair during the Young Professionals of Jasper County’s Thanks with Franks event. In the past, the group has organized activities for young people to participate in during the event but would like to expand to reach a wider audience and inform them on health organizations in the city.

4. An update was given on the school snack funding project currently underway. Coalition member Robyn Friedman said she had sent a grant application to Delta Dental and was still waiting to hear back on any funding received.
