Tigerhawk softball makes quick work of Iowa Valley

COLFAX — The top of Colfax-Mingo’s lineup presents a lot of problems for opposing pitchers in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Friday, the top three hitters — sophomore Ries Wilson, junior Alivia Haley and junior Amy Russell — collected seven of the team’s 12 hits and recorded eight of the team’s RBIs during an easy 13-0 home win over Iowa Valley.

The Tigerhawks (14-6-1) plated nine runs in the first inning and ended the game after three innings with a four-run second frame.

Russell faced two more than the minimum in the circle, tossing her first no-hitter of the season. She struck out nine and walked one in three innings. An Iowa Valley (5-16 overall, 3-7 in the SICL) batter also reached on one Colfax-Mingo error.

At the plate, Russell improved her team-best batting average with three hits and added two RBIs and scored one run.

Haley had two hits, scored two runs and drove in four runs. Three of Haley’s RBIs came on a bases-loaded double in the nine-run first inning.

Wilson collected two hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs from her lead-off spot, while freshman Chelsea Russell had two hits and freshman Braedynn Rawlins and Delaney Underwood each scored two runs.

Colfax-Mingo takes a 9-2 conference record into Monday’s 6 p.m. road showdown with Lynnville-Sully, which comes into the game with a 7-3 conference mark. The Hawks are 10-11 overall.
