PCM can’t get bats going in loss to Hawks

PRAIRIE CITY —The Prairie City-Monroe baseball team was held to five hits at the plate, and South Hamilton’s three-run fourth inning was all the Hawks needed during a 3-1 road win.

Braden Phifer had two of the Mustangs’ five hits, while Clay Cooper tripled, scored a run, walked and stole a base during the Heart of Iowa Conference affair.

Cooper scored PCM’s lone run in the seventh inning. Austin Brown and Preston Van Wyk each had one hit, while Tyler Foster had an RBI and Noah Clark walked twice. Van Wyk and Brayton Van Dyke both walked once.

Noah Henkenius started on the mound and took the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Van Wyk tossed the final 2 2/3 innings. He allowed one hit.

The Mustangs (6-10 overall, 5-5 in HOIC) play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Roland-Story.
